Do some photographs show up better than others? Absolutely. The clearer the photo, the clearer the image on the pendant. In addition, high contrast between the subject of the photograph and the background yields a better reproduction.
-
Does the type of photograph matter? No. Photographs can me 35mm, 110, studio shots, even slides or Polaroid's, in color or black and white. We cannot, however, create a color image from black and white photograph.
-
Can I send a slide or a negative? No.
-
What is the difference between laser engraving and mechanical engraving? This question can be answered with one simple word: QUALITY. Mechanical engraving is to laser engraving what an image produced by a dot matrix printer is to one produced by a high quality, high resolution laser printer.
-
Are the photographs returned? Will they be harmed in the process? All photographs are returned with the pendant. At no time during the PhotoScribe process are the photographs harmed.
-
What choices do I have for my picture? Two
processes are available, the first being laser engraving which is a black and
white image for lack of better terminology. There are no inks or dyes involved
in this process. The laser blasts small holes into the gold, creating a
permanent image. There is also color enamel that is a true color recreation of
the photograph on the gold. This is done in a heat-baked process, similar to
true jewelers enameling.
-
Can the image wear off? No, the PhotoScribe Laser Engraved portrait is permanently engraved into 14k gold. A watch crystal is optically bonded over the portrait to make it water and scratch resistant. No inks or dyes are used. PhotoScribe has developed a special alloy to mix with the gold that reacts to the laser creating a crisp, clear, permanent image.
The same statement can not be made regarding the color enamel, because as with any color item,
i.e. clothes, cars, etc., the sun’s rays can affect it. The 30-day
satisfaction guarantee and a guarantee against manufacturing defects however,
cover both.
-
Do I have to send special photographs? Any photograph, color or black and white, can be used. However, photographs with good contrast and simple, uncluttered, light backgrounds generally look better. We can digitally repair damaged photographs.
-
What portion of the picture will show? The
focus of the picture is on the face or faces in the photograph, the image is cropped
around the shoulder area. Should you want something other than what is suggested,
make photocopies of the photographs and cut and paste those together, then
send us the original photos as well as the copies for us to follow. At no time
should you cut, mark or mar the original photograph in any way, PhotoScribe
can fix and rearrange most things using their computer. There is no extra
charge to merge 2 photographs together, PhotoScribe also do not charge
for minor touch ups or moving people around.
-
How do I clean my PhotoScribe Jewelry? Treat your PhotoScribe jewelry as you would any fine gold jewelry. Since it is made of solid 14k gold, it will not tarnish. To remove fingerprints, gently rub with a clean, soft cloth.
-
Is a PhotoScribe portrait expensive? No, it's not expensive. In fact, the cost of a PhotoScribe portrait is less than some gold jewelry and it represents outstanding value, considering that it is made of solid 14kt gold and is custom laser engraved just for you.
-
What if the bale is to small for my chain or bracelet? We
strongly advise that a torch not be used on the pendant as it could damage the
watch crystal. Many experienced Jewelers have had no problem changing a bale
but for most repairs we would prefer it be returned to PhotoScribe.
-
I would like a bracelet or chain to go with my PhotoScribe pendant? Yes we have both bracelets and chains available for purchase.
-
PhotoScribe makes a
great family heirloom that can be handed down from generation to generation.
All framed pendants have a mineral watch crystal covering the front and back
making them water and scratch resistant. Since the mineral watch crystals are
bonded to the pendant using a heat and pressure treatment. The pendants
may be further personalized by engraving the back, this must be done when
order is placed.
